SPARC Europe’s new service – Europe’s Open Education Champions – focuses on highlighting some of the individuals who are driving Open Education forward in Europe’s Higher Education.
Despite seeing international and national Open Education policy development growing across Europe, it is the teaching community, senior administration and library community who can create the cultural change necessary to embrace a new scholarly communication system.
Thanks to the UNESCO OER Recommendation, unanimously adopted in 2019 by 193 UNESCO member states at the 40th UNESCO General Conference, OE advocates are increasingly raising awareness, enhancing capacity building, supporting infrastructure, and promoting OE policies across the globe.
It is the Open Education advocates, the people who are passionate about Open Education, who are leading this momentum. SPARC Europe has brought a number of these leaders or ‘champions’ together in a new online showcase. They are setting a good example in Europe.
Practitioners, pedagogical experts, students and administrators share their personal views on what still needs to be done for more Open Education and the movement to get educators to open their teaching. They are helping change the hearts and minds of peers towards more openness. They tell us why and how in their own words.
These are the people who have helped make Europe’s Open Education Champions happen.
This work builds on the SPARC Europe Open Access Champion and Open Data sites; the SPARC Europe Open Champion programme.
